The Cashmere Recuperation

CALL FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

The Managing Committee of Amar Singh Club, Srinagar has formulated a science based positive community intervention which we call the “Cashmere Recuperation’. Recuperation means recovery from illness or exertion and we believe that this intervention would go a long way in protecting our children from the harmful impact of digital overconsumption and weaning them towards healthy and enriching use of technology.

The Cashmere Recuperation comprises of several different segments and competitions like public speaking, painting, chess, physical challenges, performing arts. Participants have been categorized in 5 age groups starting from the age of 3 years to 25 years. We are starting the program with a Public Speaking Competition for Group IV, being youngsters aged between 14 to 18 years.

The public speaking segment is open for all children of Kashmir, whether a student of an elite private school or an unschooled child. They have the freedom to speak in whatever language they are comfortable in, including Kashmiri.

The task for this age group is to watch two Netflix documentaries ‘The Social Dilemma’ and ‘Buy Now:The Shopping Conspiracy’ and other shows and studies having similar themes. They may also study books like ‘Dopamine Nation’ authored by Dr Anna Lembke and ‘The Power of One’ written by Frances Haugen and other books on the topic. Following the leads therein, do your own research on the impact of Social Media Apps. You would also be speaking on the practices adopted by tech companies to hook users to Social Media Apps, the mental and physical impact on young minds and what you would do to control or manage digital consumption in your home and the community, followed by an interaction with the Judges.

We are announcing a Cash Award of Rs 1,00,000/- for the winner which, based on sponsorship and public contributions is likely to snowball into an unprecedent amount by the time the preliminary screening is completed. There are many more gifts and recognition certificates being considered which shall also be announced before the actual debates starts.

Eligibility
The competition is open for all youth from across Kashmir. Participants may speak in English, Kashmiri, Urdu, or any other language they find comfortable.
